Why You Need to Plan Your Marketing Goals

Your marketing does not "just" happen. You need a plan and you need to stick to it.

Be sure to schedule yourself time each week or month to accomplish your marketing tasks.

You need to plan out your marketing goals to ensure success. If you don't know what you want to achieve how will you succeed? You will need to know your sales goals, email list growth (if applicable), and any other goal you are trying to achieve.

Now think about your goals in two categories: Long Term and Short Term.

What is the long term goal of your marketing? Most companies, the goal is to increase visibility and profitability. Your short term goals should be the steps needed to achieve the long term goal.

Lets look at my company. My marketing goal currently is to grow my email list. ( you can sign up here and get a freebie!) I have a long term goal of the number I want to achieve by December 31, 2020. I divided that number by the remaining number of months and I have a goal for each month. The amount I am short by is divided out over the rest of the year. If I am over my goal, I keep each month's goal the same. Why? I would rather exceed my goals by the end of the year instead of only breaking even.

Next look at your calendar. How much time do you have to promote yourself? Are you using automation to help with your marketing? I.E. are you scheduling your posts for marketing? It's easier to sit down for 30 to 60 minutes each week and schedule when you want your posts/ads to go live; than it is to take time every day to accomplish the same task.

Why put all of this effort into a plan? At the end of the day you need to be in front of as many people as possible. No marketing means no one knows you exist. The reality is: Marketing is a driving force for your company.
